Anyone who's strolled this shoreline can attest to the beauty of this beach. Akumal is truly blessed with one of the best powder beaches around and it's great for beachcombing and sunbathing. A coral reef protects the beach from large waves and provides a calm area for swimming and snorkeling the coral heads.
Rooms and facilities Unlike many all-inclusive newcomers, the Akumal Beach Resort has been around for many years and has undergone extensive improvements and expansion under several management companys. It seems there is no end to the number of people who love and return to the Akumal Beach Resort. There are a variety of room types including garden and ocean view, and all are only a few steps from the beach. Facilities include a large beach side pool with Jacuzzi, restaurants, accommodations buildings and myriad other facilities and service areas. All rooms are all fully air conditioned with either two double beds or one king size bed, a private bathroom, colorful decor, and a lovely little terrace. All are very nice and comfortable.
Pool, beach & restaurants The beach side main restaurant/ bar has a great view of the Caribbean and is right next to the main swimming pool. Meals are buffet style offering Continental breakfast with plenty of fresh fruits, juices and beverages, and full buffet style lunches and dinners. There are also 2 a la carte restaurants for dinning: La Trattoria Italian restaurant, and the Azteca Mexican restaurant. 3 bars: Pelicanos beach bar, Akumal snack bar, and the Theater bar, offer unlimited alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages (see below for hours of service). Activities include: tennis (2 courts), billiards, ping-pong, aerobics, volleyball, water polo, kayaking and snorkeling. Free scuba clinics are conducted in the main swimming pool. The main pool is a large wrap around affair with plenty of deck area and lounges for sunbathing, and an open air jacuzzi. For parents, there is also a kid's pool and Kid's Club that provides activities (under adult supervision) for children 4 to 12 years old.
