The house is very private at the end of South Akumal's residential street. The garden entrance opens to small courtyard buffer before the front door to the main house. The entrance walkway passes through a garden area with the main house straight ahead and an upper level guest house apartment to the right in a separate building. The house has private parking on the cul-de-sac. On the sea side of the house a shaded patio and a sandy tanning area in full sun. Since Las Hamacas is at the end of the road on a cul-de-sac the beach is almost always deserted.
Inside Las Hamacas the lower level opens immediately to a garden atrium with cathedral ceiling above. The living room, kitchen and dining room are straight ahead and to the left. The living room has a large L shape couch and faces a glass slider to the ocean side patio. To the left of the living room is a fully equipped kitchen with convenient pass through to the dining room. A lower level bedroom to the right of the living room has a private bathroom with tub and its own slider to the beach. The second floor master suite has a large bath and shower with a interior view down to the first floor atrium. A second floor exterior terrace off the master suite overlooks the Caribbean.
The guest house by the front garden is a one bedroom fully efficient apartment with a kitchen and bathroom. All rooms in the main house have an ocean view and the guest house has a lovely garden view.
Snorkeling in the protected South Akumal Bay is relaxing and pristine. We do recommend that you wear beach shoes or swim fins when entering the water as sea urchins live amidst the rocks. Also, the south Akumal beach is a nesting area for several species of endangered sea turtles. Starting in late June adult females come ashore to dig nests and lay their eggs. Baby sea turtles hatch through late August. Please be careful not to trample sand mounds on the beach or shine bright lights out on the beach during these months, as this disrupts the turtle's reproductive cycle. Witnessing this natural event is quite a privilege and really emphasizes how precious this coastal area is!
