If you are looking for an excellent value right in the heart of Mahahual this little ten room hotel/restaurant is a good choice, and they have a beach club/bar on the beach right across the street.
La Posada de los 40 Cañones is the hotel's official name, named no doubt for a 16th or 17th century shipwreck found by local fishermen, perhaps on Chinchorro atoll. 40 cannons is one of the few accommodations that has a restaurant on site, in this case an Italian restaurant, just off their lovely central courtyard. Tables and chairs are inside or outside in front overlooking the beach. Pastas are offered as well as fresh fish, depending on what's available daily. The bar serves beer, wine and liquor, nothing too fancy. Just across the street is 40 Cannon's beach club, a perfect place to sit with a cool drink and enjoy the sea view and breeze. La Posada de los 40 Cañones is one of the best accommodations in Mahahual town center.
