Certificado Verde: An Environmental Commitment To The Community
Locogringo reached out to congratulate Akumal Caribe's team for successfully passing the environmental audit that accredits their commitment to comply with environmental laws. Hotel Club Akumal Caribe's Director shared a statement including details about the effort the entire staff made to achieve this milestone as a community. Their message reads as follows:
"We are proud to announce that Hotel Akumal Caribe and Restaurant and Snack Bar Lolha have successfully passed the environmental audit that accredits us to receive the Environmental Certification of the State of Quintana Roo “Certificado Verde“.
In June of 2020, we were asked by the “ Procuraduria de Proteccion al Ambiente” PPA which is the State Environmental Protection Agency to take part in this voluntary audit and certification process which would ensure our property complies with the State Environmental Laws.
We knew it would be a long and arduous process, but we took on the challenge despite being in the worst situation we have faced due to the Covid pandemic. It was the right thing to do for many reasons. We had already started on some of the measures that are necessary to be an environmentally responsible property, so this was the logical next step. We wanted to set an example for others by being the first hotel in the Municipality of Tulum to get certified.
This was not an easy challenge! We were already taxed with extra health and safety measures due to the pandemic, struggling with the lack of tourism, and then with the return of tourism but after one year and 5 months, we were notified that we had passed the audit!
It is a great honor to say that due to the hard work of our staff with the direction and supervision of our external environmental advisor, Elizabeth Bautista, we can proudly display this logo and certificates! It will be an ongoing process as we must undergo a yearly renewal to continue to hold the certification.
For now, we want to thank all our staff for their hard work and hope they have learned much from the process that they can apply in their own homes and teach their children to be environmentally aware from a young age and the benefits that it brings us every day."
