Tapas in the Garden at Luuma
Open: 5 pm to midnight
Location: On the corner of Avenida Damero and Calle Sierra
Step through the gate into a palm-tree adorned garden with stone walls. Luuma provides a serene outdoor setting illuminated by lanterns and candlelight for an evening of drinks and Spanish-inspired flavors using Mexico-sourced ingredients.
The tapas menu at Luuma makes it easy to share a dining experience with friends while sampling a variety of dishes, like grilled pork pancetta topped in crispy ground corn, or lamb tamales with Yucatan’s black recado sauce.
Signature cocktails at this Holbox bar cost $140 pesos each and showcase innovative recipes like the Luuma Colada made with spiced rum, wild passionfruit pulp, coconut cream from the island, and a homemade cinnamon syrup.
Live Music at The Hot Corner
Open: Noon to 1 am (kitchen closes at 11 pm)
Location: On the corner of Avenida Coldwell and Calle Tiburon Ballena
Swing by this open-air bar on a weekend night, and you just might see crowds spilling out of the venue and onto the street to enjoy the live music.
Located just north of the main square, The Hot Corner has a bar stretching almost all the way across its entire front, along with some outside tables for street seating. Live musicians and performers take to the microphone most nights, turning this venue into one of the most popular nightlife spots and bars in Isla Holbox.
As a “gastropub” focusing on savory seafood, The Hot Corner has daily specials like the chipotle fish tostada with pineapple, fish tacos, tartars and more.
Beachfront Sunsets at Casa Las Tortugas’ Rooftop Bar
Open: 5 pm to 10 pm (closed Mondays)
Location: At Casa Las Tortugas Hotel, on Calle Sierra at the beach
Holbox’s most scenic bar sits over the wonderful Mandarina restaurant at Casa Las Tortugas Hotel, on the eastern edge of town. This small rooftop bar has just six or seven tables, but it boasts some of the island’s most captivating sunset views through the palm trees.
Get there half an hour before sunset, grab one of the most photograph-friendly tables, and order refreshing Mexican-style cocktails. Some examples include Loco en el Coco (with mezcal and horchata, a sweet and creamy rice-based drink popular throughout Mexico) or a TJ Roof Michelada (beer, cucumber, grasshopper salt, and a mix of salsas).
