No Such Thing as Daylight Savings In Akumal!
As of 2015, the state of Quintans Roo stopped using Daylight Savings Time including Akumal. DST was first implemented throughout Mexico in 1996, mainly because of the border towns with the US. However, since then, 2 of the 32 states forming the Republic of Mexico have stopped using Daylight Savings, Sonora and Quintana Roo.
By not switching time, tourists can enjoy more natural light and longer days. This is a great advantage for visitors, when DST was in use the sun was completely down at 5 PM during winter, so recreational activities and services were affected. Another advantage for Q.Roo not using DST is energy savings which contribute to progress in sustainability in the Caribbean, and more efficient use of tourism infrastructure.
