Cancun International Airport is the most well-known airport to fly into Riviera Maya from the U.S. but Cozumel Airport offers direct access to one of the world's most popular beach destinations.
Are you planning a trip to Cozumel from the U.S.? If so, you're in for a great experience! Cozumel is a beautiful island just off the coast of Mexico with plenty of activities for travelers and an international airport.
Here are some tips to help you plan your trip and make the most of your time in this Caribbean paradise.
One of the best things about flying to Cozumel from the U.S. is the convenience of its small airport. Immigration lines at Cozumel International Airport (CZM) are typically shorter than most other airports, so you can spend less time waiting in line and more time exploring the island.
When you arrive in Cozumel, make sure to have your passport stamped. Mexican Customs forms are now paperless, so not having a stamp upon departure may result in fines.
Keep in mind, Cozumel's international airport is not within walking distance of most lodging. Before you arrive, make sure to have your transportation secured so you can get to your hotel without any trouble. Taxis are available at the airport, but you must pay in full before your service begins at one of the vendor booths inside the airport. Taxis from the airport cannot make additional stops unless paid for before leaving the premises.
Once you're on the island, it is only a short ferry ride to Playa Del Carmen where you can pick you your car rental and set forth exploring Riviera Maya at your leisure.
Here are the airports in the U.S. that offer direct flights to Cozumel:
• Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW)
• Miami International Airport (MIA)
• Houston George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH)
• Chicago O'Hare International Airport (ORD)
• Los Angeles International Airport (LAX)
• New York John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK)
