LA CUEVA DEL PESCADOR, AKUMAL
Now that you are in the Riviera Maya, I would suspect you are searching for some fresh fish to sink your teeth into. Well, look no further. For many years, La Cueva del Pescador has been serving fresh fish for locals and visitors. Their secret? The owner is a local fisherman who has been fishing in the Caribbean since 1982. He is the secret to Cueva del Pescador’s continued success. Great margaritas, super friendly staff (his kids), and its central location helps, but the fresh catch served each and every day makes this restaurant super!
Cool Ambiance, Extensive Menu, Free Chips and Salsa
So this is what Cueva del Pescador is like. When you sit down in the restaurant, your feet sink into the sand floors that give you a feeling of the beach, though it is off the beach. Chips and salsa arrive ‘gratis’ at the table as you read through the extensive seafood and non-seafood menu. Waiters are cheerful, beers are super cold, and mixed drinks are strong.
Some regular favorite dishes are the ceviche, fish tacos, fresh catch of the day, and the octopus. Non-seafood dishes that have great reviews are the sopa de lima (lime soup) and chicken club. Now, we do have to say, it is best to have fish at Cueva del Pescador. Sure there are chicken fajitas, grilled chicken, and chicken fingers but this restaurant really excels in the seafood and fish department.
Have your Catch from Your Personal Fishing Trips Cooked up for Free!
With fishing in their blood, anyone can book a fishing trip with the owner and have their personal catch cooked up at the restaurant. This is a wonderful bonus if you are not sure how to filet a 20lb wahoo, or are not that into cleaning your own catch. The boat captain will personally take your catch to the restaurant, the chef will filet it, and in a matter of minutes your catch is sitting in front of you prepared the way you want it! Now that is service!
This is the freshest seafood and fish restaurant on the coast with excellent prices and funny staff. Cutting out the middleman and catching the fish directly saves you a few pesos. It is a great business strategy and a sure fire win for everyone!
