This month we are celebrating all the bodies of water that are in the Riviera Maya. What makes the Riviera Maya so unique, so diverse, and ecologically extraordinary are the different bodies of water throughout the area. June is World Ocean Month, celebrated everywhere on the planet. With 73% of the planet covered by bodies of water, this part of our world deserves a dedicated month!

Ocean

Follow us this month and find out more about the diverse bodies of water located in the Riviera Maya. The area has sea, ocean, a Gulf, cenotes and lagoons. The water is fresh water, sweet water, salt water and in some areas, the salt and fresh water mixes making the area filled with brackish waters.

What amazes us is the ecosystems of plants, animals, fish, corals, and more that live within these bodies of water. Water is fascinating enough, but when you get a close up of who lives in those bodies of water, the story gets that much more interesting!

There is a list of interesting bodies of water that you can experience in the Riviera Maya. Check them all out! Each ecosystem is easy to access and easy to explore, which is why we decided to settle in the area! One day you can explore the sea, another day you can explore the Gulf of mexico, the next it is easy to see the beauty of a cenote and the if you are up for it, the lagoons throughout the Riviera Maya and the Yucatan.

Celebrate Ocean Month with us this month and learn about the different bodies of water that make this area so great while exploring the unique ecosystems that keep these bodies of water alive! Check out our information first about the beaches of the Riviera Maya first, so you have an understanding of the Mexican Caribbean sea.
