Finding restaurants in the Riviera Maya that serve vegetarian options is easy. Finding restaurants that only serve vegetarian and vegan meals not as easy. We have a list of 10 vegetarian and vegan restaurants for meat-free eaters who want pure, clean vegetarian food.
Included in this list are restaurants or small cafes that cook authentic Mexican flavors using vegan ingredients. We have waited for this day for a long time as vegetarian and vegans had to skip Mexican flavors. Today there are many restaurants and cafes that have created vegan options for typical Mexican foods.
Tulum Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurants
Tulum by far has the most vegan and vegetarian restaurants. Our two favorite places to grab a great meal with authentic Mexican flavors are Restaurare and Charly’s Vegan Tacos. Both restaurants are located on the Tulum Beach Road and both are 100% vegan. There are more that just these two vegan restaurants in Tulum, but start here and learn from others which are their favorite vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Tulum.
Look out for the Tulum Veganfest, a food festival becoming very popular in this little beach town.
Playa del Carmen Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurants
Playa del Carmen is the largest city in the Riviera Maya so they do have more options for vegetarian and vegans.
Some of our favorite places to go, which are a mix of both vegetarian and vegan restaurants are the following:
Bio-Organico’s – 26th Street between 5th and 10th Avenue. Eggs are served in the restaurant but there are many vegan options on the menu. They also own an organic store with products you cannot find anywhere else. Organic, fresh, food to go and fresh cold-pressed juices are just some of the unique finds in their store.
Balche Playa – 5th Avenue at 54th Street – This is a new-ish restaurant worth a try. Raw, vegan and vegetarian meals.
Somos de Maiz – 46th Street between 5th and 10th Street – ThisrRestaurant started by the Vegan Playa Movement. ‘Nuff said.
The Pitted Date – 26th Street between 5th and 10th – They have a vegan bakery and lots of food to go! Great for vegan desserts and those who have a sweet tooth but don’t want refined sugar.
Clorofila – 20th Street and 30th Avenue – Great vegan and vegetarian menu. Fresh, fresh, fresh! They also serve wheat grass shots!
La Senda – 10th Street between 10th and 12th Street – Vegan food in a relaxed atmosphere. Good for lunch and breakfast.
Puerto Morelos Vegetarian and Vegan Restaurants
I will say Puerto Morelos has the best vegan Mexican food on the coast. Both restaurants are vegan and both serve authentic Mexican dishes. Only open for lunch.
Coco’s Cocina – Av. Ninos Hereos North (one block from the Oxxo) This is a groovy little place that offers a comida economica style menu. You can opt for the small lunch which includes 2 vegan options of the day, rice, beans, a natural fruit water and dessert. Or you can go for the large lunch which includes 3 vegan options, soup, rice, beans, fruit water and dessert. They create 8 to 10 Vegan Mexican dishes each day, and every day is different. You get to pick 2 or 3 of these options for your meal.
Lukas and Lorenzo – Hwy 307 at the north entrance to Puerto Morelos. (just past the AKI supermarket) These guys rock it when it comes to vegan food. They offer a meal of the day (soup, main course and dessert) and a regular menu. It is 100% vegan Mexican food.
